Latin | Translation | Notes
e.g. | 'for the sake of example' | Abbreviation for exempli gratia, below.
Often confused with id est (i.e.). e.g. is used to introduce one or more examples
id est (i.e.) | that is | "That is (to say)", "in other words", or sometimes "in this case", depending on the context. Never equivalent to exempli gratia (e.g.), although frequently so used.
Id est, i.e., "that is", is commonly abbreviated "i.e."; in this usage it is sometimes followed by a comma, depending on style (American English and British English respectively).
Det skulle kunna finnas fler latinska uttryck som representerar 'till exempel', dock så är det endast e.g och i.e jag känner till. Att skriva 'for example' fungerar lika bra som någon av dessa förkortningar.
